Tali Kalai School Building Handover and Kalai Birthing Centre Building II Inauguration Programme.

“RCC buildings in the remote Mugu are unimagined. And the quality maintained for the building construction makes no less than constructions in the urban areas. Such constructions in the remote district are very important. I am very happy and thankful to the organization for continuing the quality work in the project activities.” Manjan Bahadur Karki, the Coordinator of District Coordination Committee, the chief guest spoke in a ceremony a ceremony has been organized for handover of the Tali Kalai School Building and inauguration of Kalai Birthing Centre building-II in Mugu.

On April 3, 2024, the ceremony was organized. The both buildings built at Tali Kalai Village had a stone laying ceremony on April 8, 2023 and they are inaugurated almost a year later.

In the ceremony, Mr. Dharma Bahadur Shahi, Chairperson of Soru Rural Municipality, Keshar Bahadur Shahi, Vice-Chairperson of Soru Rural Municipality and Topendra Bahadur KC, the Chief District Officer, DAO, Mugu were the special guests. The municipality staff, ward chairperson, local intellectuals, journalists, villagers and students of the school were present in the programme.

The programme started with the chairing the guests and opening the banners from the hands of chief guests and special guests.

After the welcome speech of Ms. Radha Malla, the Assistant Project Manager of KCDC, the guests spoke over the building constructions in the village.

“It has been quality work from Back to Life. I have been to parts of the district during my field monitoring. The birthing centres have contributed a lot for the women of the remote villages. During these visits, I have observed the construction activities of the organization keenly. They are role model for the other organization and governmental development activities.” The CDO spoke.

Kalai Birthing Centre is the fourth birthing centre established in Mugu from Back to Life in 2015. The 3-room community house had been converted to the birth centre with construction of an additional kitchen room and sanitation facility away from the building. Kalai Birthing centre established in 2015 has served 227 women to have safe deliveries till date of new building inauguration. Total 228 babies have born so far including 116 male babies and 112 female babies. At present, the birthing centre serves 206 households with 1233 population of Tali Kalai Village and Mathi Kalai Village.

The birth centre lacked needed structures as per guided by the Aama Programme Guideline of Government of Nepal. Therefore, an additional building was due for Kalai Birthing Centre since we started the birthing centre projects. After the construction, the Kalai Birthing Centre fulfills its needed infrastructures with the establishment of the new building. The new building has additional 4 rooms to operate a birthing centre facility. The building has planned with delivery room with attached toilet, postnatal room (PNC), administration and pharmacy. The ANC activities, staff room and kitchen activities will be operated from the old building. 1/1 toilets are also added for staff and visitors with the new building. The instruments and furnishing materials have been properly installed in the rooms. On the other hands, Tali Kalai School has been established in 2011. The school serves 87 households with 470 population. The existing buildings with 4 rooms were made up of mud and stone and roofed with zink sheets. The community people themselves completed the structures through community contribution using the materials of old ruined buildings and some purchased ones. These were not safe and sufficient for school activities. In 2021, a 2 room truss roofed building was built by the government. Therefore, a school building with 4 rooms in Tali Kalai Village Primary School was planned in 2022. Additionally, needed furniture, a toilet facility and drinking water facility has been planned as sanitation assets needed.

“It was happy moment for the community I reside. The men and women in the community are very happy for the contributions from the organization. The organization has done more than the governmental bodies could not do. We were well supported for any difficulties at the construction period. I am feeling proud to see what we could construct. The children had to sit under the tree at starting of the school. Later on we built a small building but it was not sufficient and safe. After the construction, the classrooms have been fulfilled in the school, we hope local government will ensure availability of teacher staff needed for the school.” Bhanubhakta Chaulagai, Chairperson of School Management Committee as well as Tali Kalai School Building Construction Committee spoke in the inauguration programme.

The inauguration programme was celebrated by local people through different cultural activities and songs with words of appreciation to the organization. The community gathered and celebrated their pleasure in the inauguration.  The students and community people performed deuda songs, hudke dance and other singing and dancing activities. The participation of community people in ceremony thanked Back to Life and the donors through their songs they had created and sung.

The other guests had their words in the ceremony on the building construction and the contribution of Back to Life in the Mugu community. Some of them are as follows:

“The buildings built in Tali Kali are constructed with very good quality. I wish the community here should be proud for what Back to Life has done for them. I wish for more needy support from the organization to the remote communities. I want to deliver many thanks to Back to Life and its contributors.” Nirpendra Bahadur Malla, Chairperson, Nepal Journalist Federation, Mugu

“Our ward has been very in debt to the Back to Life for the services it provides to the community through birthing centre, schools and other community-based supports. The newly built RCC building is very nice and fulfills quality needed for the healthy learning activities. It fulfills need of Tali Kalai School. There are 3 other schools in the ward lack buildings or have dilapidated buildings. We hope for such support in future too.” Sagar Shahi, Ward Chairperson of Kalai Village

“It is our pleasure to work with the organization because its works ethics are very different than others. It has been working all over district and contributing for safe motherhood through 15 Birthing centres. Likewise, the supports for the schools like buildings, uniforms and winter clothes for children and different community-based activities are notable. We got very nice support technically in the construction activities since we started working with the organization. Due to continuous support, we come to complete these two constructions within almost a year. We are thankful to the organization for continuity of the activities for remote Mugu.” Harijung Shahi, Advisor of KCDC, our implementing partner.

I am very glad that I have been here almost 360 days before for stone laying of the two newly built building and I am again here for inauguration. The local government is not capable to do such construction, though we eagerly want. The organization like Back to Life make our works easy. On the other hand, the organization have very nice practice of monitoring of their activities, which we lack. The constructions are lesson for us. I urge the community to utilize and care for the constructions as their own. I am thankful to the donors and hope for support for more constructions in the Municipality. We are always there for coordinating and supporting in the activities with virtuous intent.” Keshar Jung Shahi, the Vice-chairperson, Soru RM

“It is always nice to see Back to Life contributing in our community and we are proud working in coordination. The quality work is exemplary. The birthing centre and school building are very nice and attracts anybody. The activities of Back to Life supports our municipality very nicely. The birthing centres in our Municipality have saved many lives while we had no much resources for staffing and operation of the institutions. We are satisfied with how the organization supports us. We will need support for the staff and operation from Back to Life in under construction birthing centres if they are possible. I hope for continuation of the project in our villages as they were before.” Dharam Bahadur Shahi, Chairperson, Soru RM.

Mr. Mahesh Datt Pant, our Monitoring Officer in Mugu attended the programme in behalf of Back to Life. The ceremony was presided by Mrs. Sangita Malla (Shahi), the chairperson of our organization.
